The Government of Ghana has paid GH¢10.82 billion to bondholders under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), bringing the total amount paid to DDEP bondholders since 2025 to GH¢41.36 billion.

The Ministry of Finance said the latest payment amounted to GH¢10,816,840,318.26 and represents the third DDEP coupon payment to be made entirely in cash.

According to the Ministry, the obligation was settled in full and on schedule, in line with government’s commitment to honour its obligations under the domestic debt restructuring programme.

The latest payment follows an assurance given by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson during the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament that government would make the coupon payment due on August 18.

The Minister had earlier disclosed that government successfully completed its first DDEP coupon payment of GH¢10.1 billion on February 17, 2026, also in full and on schedule.

The DDEP was introduced as part of Ghana’s efforts to restore debt sustainability following the country’s debt crisis. The programme involved the restructuring of domestic bonds held by banks, pension funds, insurance companies, individual investors and other creditors.

The Ministry of Finance said the latest payment is expected to strengthen investor confidence, reduce Ghana’s sovereign default risk and reinforce the country’s financial credibility.

Government has maintained that timely servicing of the restructured domestic debt is critical to rebuilding investor confidence and supporting efforts to restore Ghana’s access to international capital markets.

Dr Forson also disclosed during the Mid-Year Budget Review that Ghana had paid $2.1 billion in principal and interest to Eurobond holders since January 2025, without putting undue pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

The Finance Minister stressed that consistent repayment of the country’s debt obligations, rather than public assurances alone, would be key to restoring confidence in Ghana’s economy.

The Ministry of Finance has assured bondholders, investors and the general public that all future DDEP obligations will be paid in full and on schedule.
