The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has directed heads of pre-tertiary schools across Ghana to stop administering assessment items and mock examinations that have not been vetted and approved by the Council.
The directive follows concerns over the continued use of assessment materials prepared by unapproved consortiums, institutions and individuals in some basic schools.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 8, NaCCA reminded schools that it is the statutory body responsible for approving assessment items and tasks for pre-tertiary education in Ghana.
The Council stressed that no school is permitted to administer an externally developed assessment item or task unless it has first been vetted and approved by NaCCA.
NaCCA has therefore directed all heads of pre-tertiary schools to comply with the directive with immediate effect.
According to the Council, the measure is intended to ensure that assessment materials used in schools meet the required standards and remain consistent with Ghana’s approved curriculum.
It further warned that schools that procure, administer or facilitate the use of unapproved assessment materials could face appropriate regulatory sanctions.
NaCCA has consequently urged school authorities to ensure that all assessment materials used in their institutions meet the required approval standards before they are administered to students.
