The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has voiced its disappointment with the Electoral Commission (EC) over being denied accreditation to oversee the printing of ballot papers for the 2024 election. The party questioned why the EC allowed representatives from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to monitor the printing process but excluded NPP agents.
NPP Director of Elections, Evans Nimako, expressed these concerns in an interview on Adom FM’s Burning Issues with Akua Biakyewaa Yiadom, stating, “We are satisfied with the electoral process overall, but we’re concerned about not receiving accreditation to monitor the ballot printing.”
According to Nimako, the EC had initially sent a letter to all political parties, presidential candidates, and independent candidates, asking them to designate agents for accreditation. Although the NPP complied, they were surprised when the EC accredited only NDC agents while excluding those of other parties.
Mr. Nimako emphasized the importance of the EC’s impartiality, noting that if the situation were reversed, the NDC would likely raise public concerns. “We’re managing the situation; we have other agents who keep us updated, and we trust their reports,” he added.
