Oliver Barker-Vormawor, leader of the activist group Democracy Hub, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following recent protests in Accra. These demonstrations, organized by his group, resulted in major road blockages and significant disruptions throughout the capital, aimed at highlighting pressing economic challenges and governance issues.
The protests led to increased tensions, with authorities arresting several participants earlier for what they described as unlawful conduct. Barker-Vormawor, who had recently become a focal point of public attention, evaded arrest for a time but was ultimately captured following a police manhunt, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing protests that have garnered national interest.
In a statement, police accused him of inciting public disorder and leading the blockade of key roads, asserting that the protests under his leadership caused major inconvenience to commuters and disrupted daily activities in Accra.
His arrest adds another chapter to the escalating conflict between the Democracy Hub and law enforcement, as the group continues to advocate for reforms addressing economic and governance issues in the country.
