The funeral of Edward Borketey Sackey, the 18-year-old O’Reilly Senior High School student who tragically died following an alleged stabbing on campus, is being held today at his family home in Spintex, Accra.
Family members and friends gathered in somber remembrance of the young man, whose sudden death has left many in deep sorrow. The tragic incident took place on Monday, September 2, just after Edward had completed an exam. According to a cousin who witnessed the incident, the fatal stabbing occurred during a confrontation between Edward and a fellow student, Godwin. Edward was reportedly stabbed three times in the chest and succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from a minor argument between the two students. The cousin recalled, “He had just finished his paper in the morning and came to see me. A few minutes later, we heard some commotion. When we asked, they said Edward and Godwin were fighting. I asked what it was about, and they said it was something small—nothing serious. It was just about who had what, like ‘I have this, you don’t,’ that kind of thing.”
She further described how the situation escalated when Godwin issued a chilling threat. “Godwin came up to me and told me to warn my brother or else his blood would flow. I didn’t take it seriously; I told him it hadn’t gotten to that point.”
She also expressed frustration with the teachers on campus, saying that Edward had sought help from them during the altercation but they “did not intervene.”
Today’s funeral brings closure to the tragic event that has left the O’Reilly Senior High School community shaken and Edward’s loved ones in grief.
