Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has expressed frustration over the club’s lack of a contract extension offer, fueling speculation about his potential departure at the end of the season.
The 32-year-old Egyptian, who has been Liverpool’s top scorer this season with 12 goals across all competitions, is in the final months of his current deal, which expires next summer. Salah’s future remains uncertain, despite his instrumental role in Liverpool’s campaign, including his double in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Southampton, a win that extended the Reds’ lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points.
Speaking after the match at St Mary’s, Salah revealed his disappointment with the situation.
“We are nearly in December, and I haven’t received any offers to stay at the club,” Salah said. “I’m probably more out than in.”
When asked if he was disheartened by the lack of a contract offer, Salah replied, “Of course. But for now, I’m focusing on this season. I want to help the team win the Premier League and, hopefully, the Champions League too. It’s disappointing, but we’ll see how things unfold.”
Liverpool has yet to publicly respond to Salah’s comments. However, a source within the club told BBC Sport that discussions with Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, are ongoing and positive.
Salah’s Premier League tally of 10 goals this season is second only to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017, Salah has become a fan favorite and one of the club’s most prolific players. He signed a three-year contract extension in 2022, which is set to conclude this summer.
Reflecting on his time at Anfield, Salah added, “I’ve been here for many years. There’s no club like this. I love the fans, and the fans love me. But ultimately, this is not in my hands or theirs. Let’s wait and see what happens.”
Liverpool previously rejected a £150 million bid from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad in September 2023. Salah’s remarks, coupled with cryptic social media posts such as his recent comment after a decisive goal against Brighton—“No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like”—have added to the uncertainty about his future.
Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and captain Virgil van Dijk are also out of contract at the same time as Salah, leaving Liverpool with critical decisions ahead regarding key players.
