Tennis legend Rafael Nadal announces retirement

Rafael Nadal has retired as one of the most accomplished men’s tennis players in history, ranking second only to his long-time rival, Novak Djokovic, in terms of Grand Slam singles titles.

Widely known as the ‘King of Clay,’ Nadal holds an unparalleled record at the French Open, securing 14 singles titles and winning an astounding 112 out of 116 matches played at Roland Garros.

His dominance extended beyond clay, as Nadal also claimed four US Open titles, and captured the Australian Open and Wimbledon twice each.

In addition to his Grand Slam achievements, Nadal won Olympic gold medals in both singles and doubles and played a key role in helping Spain clinch five Davis Cup titles, with the most recent victory coming in 2019.

Alongside Djokovic and 20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer, Nadal was part of the famed ‘Big Three’ trio that dominated men’s tennis from the early 2000s, captivating fans and elevating the sport to new heights.
