Professor Kobby Mensah, an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited (GTDC).

The GTDC is responsible for promoting tourism in Ghana and mobilizing resources for investment in the tourism sector. It focuses on fostering equity participation in tourism projects, both with local Ghanaians and international partners. The company also provides financial and technical support to small tourism businesses, aiming to improve their services and overall efficiency. Additionally, GTDC engages in other business ventures that could enhance its operations or increase the value of its assets.

About Professor Kobby Mensah

Professor Mensah hails from Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana. His educational journey began at St. Peters Primary School in Takoradi, followed by St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast. He went on to pursue higher education at the Institute of Professional Studies (now known as UPSA), before earning a PhD in Journalism from the University of Sheffield and an MSc in International Marketing from Sheffield Hallam University, both in the United Kingdom.

Before his academic career, Dr. Mensah worked as the marketing manager for the Student and Youth Travel Organization (SYTO), where he was later transferred to South Africa. He is now a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School and a Chartered Marketer (CIM, UK).

Dr. Mensah is an accomplished researcher, passionate about evidence-based teaching and collaborative research. He is the editor of Political Marketing and Management in Ghana: A New Architecture, published by Palgrave MacMillan, and is widely regarded as a leading expert in political marketing across Africa. His work has helped to spark growing interest in the field in Ghana.

His expertise is often sought by both local and international media outlets, including the BBC, Financial Times, DW, and SABC. In addition to his academic and research contributions, Dr. Mensah is an influential voice in the tourism industry. He recently shared his insights on digital tourism at the African Tourism Leadership Forum (ATLF) and the Ghana Economic Forum in Accra. He also contributes to Brand South Africa, offering his expertise on Pan-African brand identity.

Dr. Mensah’s skill set includes communications strategy, campaign management, social media development, media relations, event planning, and customer service team development. He has also made significant strides in refining marketing campaigns and streamlining organizational processes to align with corporate brand identities.
