Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu is optimistic that the Supreme Court will soon resolve the ongoing issue surrounding the withheld 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Kpebu, who is representing over 10,000 affected candidates, revealed that just two of the schools he is advocating for account for approximately 10,500 students. Overall, more than 40,000 candidates have had their results withheld.

“The numbers are huge—just the two schools I’m representing have about 10,500 students affected. Altogether, over 40,000 candidates are in this situation. We are hopeful that as we head to court today, Justice Alibaba Abature will rule in our favor. I believe strongly in this case, which is why we pursued legal action,” he stated.

Mr. Kpebu expressed deep concern over the impact of the delay, warning that it is severely affecting the academic prospects of the students. He pointed out that many universities have already closed their admissions, leaving these candidates in limbo.

“For instance, the University of Ghana closed its admissions about two weeks ago, meaning these students no longer have access to apply. We will appeal for institutions to reconsider and reopen admissions to accommodate them,” he pleaded.

With the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) responsible for administering the WASSCE, Mr. Kpebu argued that the institution should have put measures in place to prevent such setbacks.

Meanwhile, in Kumasi, tensions escalated as frustrated parents and students stormed the WAEC regional office on Wednesday, demanding the release of the withheld results.

The situation has particularly impacted over 2,000 students from T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, leaving them unable to proceed with university applications. According to parents, WAEC had instructed affected students to visit its regional office for verification regarding alleged examination malpractice. However, no progress has been made in resolving their concerns.

Parents and students continue to seek urgent intervention to prevent further disruption to their educational journey.
