On Friday, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin announced the reconstitution of the Appointments Committee after a disruptive vetting session on Thursday, January 30. The session descended into chaos, leading to the suspension of four Members of Parliament for two weeks.

The suspended MPs include the Majority and Minority Chief Whips, Frank Annoh-Dompreh and Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, along with Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli and Jerry Ahmed Shaib.

In response to the incident, Speaker Bagbin has formed a bi-partisan, seven-member committee, chaired by Emmanuel Bedzrah, to investigate the disturbances and recommend appropriate actions. The committee is expected to submit a report within 10 days.

To ensure accountability, Speaker Bagbin has also instructed the Clerk of Parliament to file a formal criminal complaint with the police. This step is intended to identify those responsible for the disruptions and facilitate a thorough investigation.

Additionally, the Clerk has been tasked with evaluating the damage to property in the Appointments Committee room, and MPs found responsible will be required to pay for repairs.
