Parliament’s Appointments Committee has reached a consensus to recommend the approval of Foreign Affairs Minister-designate Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Health Minister-designate Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and ten other nominees following their vetting on Friday, January 31.
Despite initial tensions that led to a Minority walkout, the committee proceeded with the screening process and ultimately agreed that all twelve nominees possessed the necessary qualifications for their respective roles.
Among those recommended for approval are Felix Kwakye Ofosu, nominated as Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Salisu Be-Awuribe Issifu, Minister-designate for the Savannah Region, and Wilbert Petty Brentum, Minister-designate for the Western North Region. Others include Joseph Nelson for the Western Region, Joseph Addae Akwaboa for the Bono Region, Francis Owusu Antwi for the Bono East Region, and Puozuing Charles Lwanga for the Upper West Region.
With the committee’s endorsement, the final decision now rests with the plenary session of Parliament, where a formal vote will determine their confirmation. However, given the consensus reached at the committee level, their approval by the House is widely expected to be a mere formality.
