The Minority in Parliament has called for the dismissal of Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor from his position as Majority Chief Whip, citing concerns over his leadership style and alleged disruptive behavior in Parliamentary affairs.

At a press conference on Friday, January 31, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin accused Dafeamekpor of employing bullying tactics and failing to demonstrate the diplomacy required for his role. He further alleged that Dafeamekpor’s actions have created tensions within the Majority caucus and undermined Bernard Ahiafor, the Chairman of the Appointments Committee.

“To my friend Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, if he still thinks he is in opposition and intends to be a bully, he will be challenged. He has become known for shouting, interrupting proceedings, clashing with his Majority Leader, and even undermining his chairman. He describes himself as the avant-garde of the government,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

The Minority Leader emphasized that Dafeamekpor’s conduct has disrupted Parliamentary business and affected cohesion within the House. According to him, such a role requires negotiation and cooperation rather than confrontation.

Afenyo-Markin urged President John Mahama and his administration to reconsider Dafeamekpor’s appointment, stating that his approach is unsuitable for governance. He argued that while Dafeamekpor may have been effective in opposition, he must now adapt to the responsibilities of governing.

“The Majority Chief Whip plays a key role in fostering dialogue and maintaining order in the Chamber. If Dafeamekpor was effective in opposition, he must recognize that government demands a different approach. President Mahama and his team should reconsider his appointment to this critical position,” he added.

The Minority’s demand reflects growing concerns about internal conflicts within Parliament, which they argue could impact legislative efficiency. They insist that a more diplomatic and consensus-driven approach is needed for smooth governance.

It remains to be seen how the Majority caucus and President Mahama’s administration will respond to these calls. However, the Minority’s stance signals a deeper political battle over leadership and Parliamentary control.

As tensions rise, observers will be watching closely to see whether the government stands by Dafeamekpor or yields to pressure for his removal.
