Nana Oduro Sarfo, an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has confirmed that Chinese pay-TV operator StarTimes will resume broadcasting the Ghana Premier League (GPL) starting in February.

StarTimes originally secured the broadcasting rights for the GPL in 2016 with a ten-year contract valued at $17.9 million. However, payment issues led to a suspension of their coverage, leaving the league without live television broadcasts for some time.

Speaking to Guide Radio, Oduro Sarfo explained, “The last time I spoke about StarTimes was four weeks ago. They will be coming back in February. The GFA currently has no contract with any media company. Since we had no TV rights and our matches were not being aired, we worked with other companies for a limited time and even provided access via our GFA app. But that will no longer be the case.”

He went on to say, “Once StarTimes takes over in February, they will have full control of the rights, and no one else will be able to broadcast the games.”

Currently, the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League matches are being shown on various local stations, including Metro TV, Original TV, Net2 TV, and AFA Sports.
