The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that a re-run of the Council of State elections will take place in the North East and Ashanti regions on Monday, February 17, 2025.

The decision comes after a tie in the North East Region and a disruption in the Ashanti Region during the initial voting held on Tuesday.

According to the EC, the election in the North East Region ended in a deadlock, with both leading candidates securing six votes each. As a result, a re-run is required to determine the winner.

“There was a tie in the election in the North East Region, with both top candidates receiving six votes each. Therefore, the election will be re-run,” the Commission stated.

In the Ashanti Region, the EC reported that all ballots were lost due to an interruption caused by thugs, prompting the need for a re-run in the area as well.

To ensure a smooth and peaceful re-election process, the EC has collaborated with security agencies.

“The Commission has contacted the Ghana Police Service and informed the National Election Security Taskforce to increase security at the election venues to prevent further disruptions,” the statement added.
