George Opare-Addo Affirms Commitment to NDC Despite Ministerial Role
Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare-Addo, has reaffirmed his dedication to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), dispelling speculations about his resignation as the party’s National Youth Organizer.
Speaking on Channel One’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda, Opare-Addo made it clear that he remains in his position, despite his ministerial appointment.
“I have not resigned as the National Youth Organizer of the NDC. I am still at post. We will have Congress next year, and I have made my intentions clear that I don’t intend to contest again, but for now, I still serve in that capacity,” he stated.
NDC Leadership Remains Intact
Opare-Addo assured party members that key officials, including his deputies, remain actively involved.
“None of us have left. Almost everybody is still at post. At our next Congress, many of us who have transitioned into government will not contest, allowing new leaders to emerge,” he explained.
Addressing concerns about whether appointing party executives into government roles weakens the NDC, he emphasized the party’s strength and depth in leadership.
“The NDC has a pool of brilliant minds—people with the right expertise and leadership skills. If I leave, there are more than capable individuals to take over. I took over from someone, and the cycle will continue,” he reassured.
Balancing Ministerial and Party Responsibilities
Despite serving as a minister, Opare-Addo remains committed to his party duties while ensuring national development.
“When I am at the NDC office, I serve as the National Youth Organizer. But when I step into my ministerial role, I serve all Ghanaians. Poverty has no political colors, and my job is to develop and empower young people,” he stated.
He also detailed how he balances both responsibilities:
“By 6:30 a.m., I am at the Youth Office handling party matters. By 8:00 a.m., I transition into my ministerial office, and sometimes after 7:00 p.m., I return to the party office. I know the responsibility I have taken on, and I am fully committed to it.”
With his continued dedication to both government and party affairs, Opare-Addo reassured NDC members of his unwavering support and commitment to the party’s growth
