The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) has temporarily closed its Nkwanta branch in the Oti Region due to escalating chieftaincy clashes in the area.
The resurgence of the conflict has resulted in the loss of five lives and extensive property destruction, prompting the bank to prioritize the safety of its staff and customers by suspending operations at the branch.
In an official statement, GCB assured the public that all employees are safe and accounted for. The bank further noted its ongoing collaboration with security agencies to monitor developments and promised to communicate updates regarding the branch’s reopening.
To ensure continued service, GCB reminded customers that its nearby branches in Kadjebi and Jasikan remain fully operational. Additionally, the bank’s digital platforms are available to meet customer banking needs during the closure.
“GCB Bank PLC is dedicated to delivering exceptional service and value. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this temporary measure,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that calm has been restored in the area following the government’s deployment of a joint Police and Military task force.
