Mahama appoints Yayra Koku as acting NIA CEO

President John Mahama has named Wisdom Yayra Koku Deku as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Identification Authority (NIA).

The appointment was confirmed by the Office of the Presidency.

Expressing his gratitude on X, Mr. Deku attributed the milestone to divine intervention while acknowledging the President’s confidence in his abilities.

“This is truly God’s doing. I am deeply grateful to President John Dramani Mahama for recognizing my potential and granting me the opportunity to serve,” he posted.

In a separate message, Wisdom Yayra Koku Deku reflected on his journey with the National Identification Authority (NIA), sharing memories of his beginnings as a temporary Technical Officer in 2008.

“The road ahead is full of promise, and I am eager to roll up my sleeves and create a meaningful impact,” he stated, pledging his commitment to delivering results in his new role.

Mr. Deku also extended his appreciation for the outpouring of goodwill messages and prayers he has received since his appointment.

He takes over from Professor Kenneth Attafuah, who retired in November 2024 after serving as the NIA’s Chief Executive Officer since 2017.

Professor Attafuah, a distinguished criminologist, played a pivotal role in the rollout of the Ghana Card initiative during his tenure.
