Contractors working on the Boankra Inland Port Project in the Ashanti Region have committed to completing the first phase of the project by the end of the first quarter of this year.
This initial phase includes the construction of essential infrastructure such as a storage facility, a security zone, access roads, and the port terminal.
Dr. Justice Amo, Chief Executive Officer of Justmoh Construction Limited, stated that the inland port is expected to be fully operational by 2026. He called on the government to increase financial and logistical support to expedite progress.

“We appreciate the financial backing provided so far, but additional support from the government is crucial to fast-tracking the completion of this project. Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has also shown unwavering support for the port’s development,” he noted during a media interview.
The Boankra Inland Port is designed to facilitate import and export activities for businesses in Ghana’s middle and northern regions. It also aims to streamline the movement of transit goods to and from neighboring countries, boosting trade efficiency.
Initially proposed during the administration of President John Agyekum Kufuor, the project received a significant boost when former President Nana Akufo-Addo broke ground for construction on November 5, 2020. At the time, Nana Akufo-Addo underscored the project’s importance in maximizing Ghana’s benefits under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

Dr. J.B. Koranteng Yorke, Project Director for the Boankra Inland Port, highlighted the project’s role in alleviating traffic congestion and reducing road accidents on the busy Accra-Kumasi highway. He also revealed plans for an interchange to address these issues.
Ing. Jarra Siddique, Project Manager at Justmoh Construction Limited, reported that phase one is 78% complete. Current efforts focus on constructing the terminal, as well as offices for a fire station, fuel station, and government agencies.

The project has brought a wave of optimism to residents in Boankra and surrounding communities. Many are thrilled about the ongoing construction, which has already created job opportunities for local youth. Communities are also hopeful about the economic benefits that the completed inland port will bring, including expanded trade and ancillary businesses.
When fully realized, the Boankra Inland Port is expected to cement Ghana’s position as a key player in regional trade under the AfCFTA framework.
