A Brussels Airlines flight travelling from Accra to Lomé has returned safely to the Accra International Airport (AIA) after experiencing a technical fault shortly after take-off.
According to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Flight SN278 departed Accra at 6:06 p.m. on Monday, July 20, but developed a technical problem during the flight.
As a precautionary safety measure, the flight crew decided to return the aircraft to Accra, where it landed safely at 6:18 p.m.
In a statement issued on Monday, the GCAA commended the flight crew for following established aviation safety procedures and ensuring the safe return of passengers and crew.
The Authority said the safety of passengers and crew remains its highest priority, adding that the technical issue that led to the aircraft’s return is being investigated by Brussels Airlines under established aviation safety procedures and with oversight from the GCAA.
Following the incident, Brussels Airlines cancelled Flight SN278.
The GCAA said affected passengers are being assisted by airline officials in line with the Ghana Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives, 2019 (Part 2 – Consumer Protection), which provides guidelines for passenger support during flight disruptions.
The Authority assured the travelling public that Ghana’s aviation safety and security oversight system remains robust and continues to meet required safety standards.
Investigations into the cause of the technical fault are ongoing.
