President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Johnson Asiamah as the next Governor of the Bank of Ghana, subject to approval by the Council of State.
The announcement was made through an official statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President.
Dr. Asiamah’s nomination comes after the current Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, requested to go on leave ahead of his retirement, which is set for March 31, 2025.
A seasoned economist, Dr. Asiamah previously held the position of Second Deputy Governor at the Bank of Ghana from 2016 to 2017.
He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Southampton, UK, and has extensive experience in monetary policy, financial regulation, and economic research.
With over 23 years at the central bank, Dr. Asiamah has played a crucial role in shaping Ghana’s financial stability and economic policies.
His nomination signals the government’s commitment to ensuring continuity and expertise in managing the country’s financial system.
