President John Dramani Mahama has named Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko as the Acting Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA). This appointment marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time the NCA has elevated one of its own long-serving members to the top position.

The NCA officially announced the appointment on January 23, 2025, via its website.

Rev. Ing. Fianko, a seasoned expert in electronic communications engineering, boasts more than two decades of experience in areas such as radio frequency spectrum management, telecommunications and broadcasting regulation, policy formulation, and ICT research.

A Career Built Within the NCA

Rev. Ing. Fianko’s journey with the NCA began in 2004 as a National Service Person. Over the years, he has steadily progressed through various roles, showcasing his dedication and expertise.

In January 2024, he was appointed as the Director of the Engineering Division. In this capacity, he oversaw the planning and management of the radio frequency spectrum for telecommunications and broadcasting services, playing a critical role in ensuring efficient service delivery.

Leadership Transition

Rev. Ing. Fianko takes over as Acting Director General from Dr. Joe Anokye. His appointment underscores the NCA’s focus on fostering and promoting internal talent to its highest leadership positions, a move that reflects the Authority’s confidence in the competence and capability of its team.
