A devastating fire outbreak during Sunday’s heavy rainfall in Kumasi has destroyed a popular unisex boutique, leaving its owners counting significant losses.
The fire completely gutted the Asokwa branch of Eddie K Boutique, reducing all merchandise and property inside the shop to ashes. The incident reportedly occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on June 14 while rain was falling across parts of the city.
Although the exact cause of the fire has not yet been established, some nearby shop owners and residents suspect power fluctuations experienced during the downpour may have triggered the blaze.

Eyewitnesses said residents and bystanders rushed to the scene and made efforts to contain the fire using available fire extinguishers. However, the intensity of the flames made it difficult to bring the situation under control.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service later arrived at the scene and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing what could have become a much larger disaster.
Municipal Chief Executive for Asokwa, Amo Kamel, visited the scene to assess the situation and support emergency response efforts. He praised the firefighters for their swift intervention, noting that their timely response helped prevent the fire from spreading to nearby shops and properties.
According to him, the quick action of the fire officers saved several adjoining businesses from destruction and minimized the overall damage caused by the incident.
The extent of the financial loss has not yet been officially determined, but all items inside the boutique were reportedly destroyed by the fire.
Authorities are expected to conduct investigations to establish the exact cause of the incident as business owners and residents continue to assess the impact of the blaze.
