President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence that Ghana and the United States will continue to strengthen their longstanding partnership as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of its independence.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Mahama extended Ghana’s congratulations and best wishes to the Government and people of the United States, describing the occasion as an opportunity to reaffirm the enduring friendship between the two nations.
In a message addressed to US President Donald J. Trump, President Mahama said he remains optimistic that Ghana–US relations will continue to deepen through their shared commitment to democracy, the rule of law, human rights and economic prosperity.
“As we join in the celebration of another milestone, it is my deep conviction that the enduring friendship and cooperation between our two countries will continue to be shaped by values and common interests, especially in the areas of the rule of law, human rights and democracy, as well as our shared aspiration for economic prosperity, which fosters a close and enduring partnership between Ghana and the United States,” he stated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Ghana and the United States have enjoyed cordial diplomatic relations since Ghana gained independence in 1957, with cooperation spanning trade, investment, infrastructure development, education and cultural exchange.
According to the Ministry, key milestones in the bilateral relationship include collaboration on the Akosombo Dam, the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), the Millennium Challenge Compact (MCC), the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), as well as sustained partnerships in the social sector.
The statement also highlighted decades of high-level diplomatic engagements between the two countries, including visits to Ghana by former US Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, as well as official visits to the United States by successive Ghanaian presidents.
President Mahama concluded his message by wishing the Government and people of the United States a peaceful, joyful and successful celebration of their 250th Independence Anniversary.
