Tensions have flared in the Effutu constituency of the Central Region as disgruntled supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressed their frustration by setting office equipment ablaze. Their protest stems from the perceived neglect of their 2024 Parliamentary Candidate, Dr. James Kofi Annan, in the recent government appointments made by President John Dramani Mahama.
The aggrieved supporters, feeling betrayed by what they claim was a campaign promise to reward Dr. Annan’s efforts, stormed the NDC constituency office. In an act of defiance, they broke into the premises, removed furniture and equipment, and set them on fire outside the building.

Chanting slogans and demanding action from the party’s leadership, the protestors called for a reconsideration of appointments to include Dr. Annan, whom they believe played a critical role in galvanizing support for the NDC during the 2024 elections.
Speaking to the media, one of the protestors stated, “We worked tirelessly for the party and Dr. Annan in the last election. It’s unfair and unacceptable for him to be sidelined after all his dedication to the constituency and the NDC.”
The incident has drawn concern from party executives in the region, who have called for calm while they address the grievances of the supporters.

Meanwhile, police in the area have launched an investigation into the destruction of property at the constituency office. Party officials have assured members that their concerns will be relayed to the national leadership for further deliberation.
This unrest highlights the growing dissatisfaction among some party members over recent government appointments and underscores the need for swift conflict resolution within the NDC.
