Nsawam/Adoagyiri MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh Expresses Shock Over Mahama’s Return as President
The Nsawam/Adoagyiri MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has admitted his surprise at John Dramani Mahama’s victory in the 2024 general elections, marking his return as President of Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on Starr FM on February 20, 2025, Annoh-Dompreh revealed that he had completely ruled out the possibility of Mahama making a political comeback.
Why Annoh-Dompreh Did Not Expect Mahama’s Return
According to the Minority Chief Whip, his conviction was shaped by widespread public sentiment in 2016, when many Ghanaians expressed strong dissatisfaction with Mahama’s leadership. Based on the feedback he had gathered, he believed voters viewed Mahama as a risky choice they were unwilling to support again.
“I never thought President Mahama would be president again. From what I was seeing and the feedback I got from people, he was seen as a risk they did not want to take due to his former governance,” he stated.
Conceding to Mahama’s Landslide Victory
Despite his initial doubts, Annoh-Dompreh acknowledged Mahama’s impressive electoral performance, admitting that the margin of victory against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) far exceeded his expectations.
“I have eaten my humble pie because of the margin with which he won. I realized that God can do anything,” he conceded.
Mahama’s Election Triumph
John Dramani Mahama secured a decisive victory in the 2024 elections, polling 6,591,790 votes (56.42%), while the NPP’s candidate garnered 4,877,611 votes (41.75%).
Annoh-Dompreh’s reaction underscores the political surprise surrounding Mahama’s return to power, defying earlier predictions and securing a commanding mandate from the Ghanaian electorate.
