Parliament is expected to adjourn sine die on Friday, July 31, 2026, bringing the second meeting of the second session of the Ninth Parliament to an end.
The recess follows the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, which outlined government’s economic performance and plans for the remaining part of the year.
During the meeting, lawmakers considered and passed several major pieces of legislation covering areas including human rights, justice, defence and community development.
Among the key bills approved by Parliament was the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, which seeks to criminalise LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana.
Parliament also passed the Tribunals Bill, a legislation aimed at establishing Regional and District Tribunals to help reduce delays and backlogs in the country’s justice system.
Other important legislations approved during the session include the National Defence University Ghana Bill, which provides a legal framework for the establishment of the institution, and the Community Service Bill, which introduces community service as an alternative to custodial sentences for persons convicted of certain offences.
The adjournment will mark the end of another busy parliamentary session, with lawmakers expected to return after the recess to continue legislative business and oversight responsibilities.
