The Ghana Police Service has announced a temporary traffic diversion on the Accra-Kumasi Highway following a road crash involving a heavily loaded articulated truck at the Birimso Bridge.
According to the Police, the accident has resulted in a complete blockage of the highway, disrupting traffic flow in both the Accra-bound and Kumasi-bound directions.
In a Facebook post issued on Saturday, July 18, the Police said officers from the Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) stationed at Kibi have been deployed to the scene to manage traffic and ensure the safety of road users.
The Police disclosed that the traffic diversion commenced at 10:00 a.m., with vehicles travelling towards Accra being redirected through Kibi at Nsutam, while motorists heading towards Kumasi are being diverted at Apedwa.
Motorists and other road users have been urged to cooperate with officers stationed along the affected route as efforts continue to remove the articulated truck and restore normal traffic movement on the highway.
The Police did not immediately provide details on the cause of the crash or whether there were any casualties.
However, drivers have been advised to exercise caution, follow the designated diversion routes and comply with instructions from officers managing traffic until the obstruction is cleared and the highway is fully reopened.
