Renowned Ghanaian musician Kwabena Kwabena has expressed his disappointment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over their unauthorized use of his song in their political campaign.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, the singer revealed that the NPP had edited and played his song without seeking his approval. According to him, the party used a portion of the track containing the phrase “Oye Number One” to emphasize their position on the ballot.

“After they secured the number one spot, they reached out to my team about using the song. We started discussions, but before I knew it, the song had been edited and was already being played on the radio,” he recounted.

Kwabena Kwabena had previously worked with the NPP, composing the 2016 campaign anthem “Vote Number 1,” which gained massive popularity and contributed to the party’s electoral success.

However, his manager, Nana Poku Ashis, disclosed that some individuals collected money on Kwabena Kwabena’s behalf without his knowledge. When the issue was later raised, the party allegedly refused to compensate him, claiming they had already made payments.

When asked about his thoughts on President Nana Akufo-Addo’s two terms in office, Kwabena Kwabena said he was disappointed.

“I don’t think any human being would be satisfied. It feels terrible that they could treat me this way,” he stated.

Reflecting on Ghana’s political landscape, he added, “The results of the last election should tell you that Ghanaians are not happy. If they aren’t, then I can’t be satisfied either.”
