Political activist and lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has formally apologized to the Appointments Committee of Parliament following his controversial bribery allegation.
Appearing before the Committee on Wednesday, Barker-Vormawor was accompanied by his legal team, led by veteran lawyer Nana Ato Dadzie.
Clarification and Apology
During the session, Mr. Dadzie clarified that Barker-Vormawor’s remarks were not intended to insult or cast aspersions on the Committee’s integrity.
“Mr. Chairman, we apologize for the post we made, which was intended for something else,” Mr. Dadzie stated. He further argued that some of the posts linked to the bribery claim did not originate from Barker-Vormawor.
The controversy stemmed from a social media post that read:
“So all the monies the ministerial appointees are being asked to pay to the Appointments Committee just to get approved, are those ones not affected by ORAL? Strange Republic.”
Distancing From Allegations
The cryptic nature of the post and its reference to the Appointments Committee led to widespread speculation and criticism.
However, Barker-Vormawor denied authorship, claiming that the statement appeared on an NPP Project Bureau Facebook page and that he was unaware of its source.
To clear up any misunderstanding, the activist expressed his willingness to delete the post and issue a disclaimer. His apology aims to restore goodwill with the Committee and dispel the controversy surrounding his remarks.
