The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has voiced concerns over the safety of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament, accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority of employing intimidation and bullying tactics against them.

Addressing the press on Monday, February 3, Afenyo-Markin stated, “We have been cooperative, but they continue to intimidate us. If we don’t stand firm, they will keep bullying us, and we won’t allow that.”

He referenced a recent disagreement within the Appointments Committee, where an initial agreement was made to vet three nominees. However, according to him, the NDC Majority insisted on increasing the number to five.

Afenyo-Markin further alleged that the NDC has been using party loyalists to intimidate NPP MPs, with reports of physical attacks.

“We have reported these incidents to the Parliament Police and are taking steps to strengthen our security,” he revealed. “These attacks are becoming more frequent, and our safety is a growing concern.”

Defending the actions of NPP MPs during their protest on Thursday night, he maintained that they conducted themselves lawfully and did not damage public property. He called on critics to review available footage of the incident before making judgments.
