The management of Accra Academy has launched an in-depth investigation following the emergence of a disturbing video showing students bullying their peers, including an alarming scene where one student is flogged with a machete.
The viral footage, which has sparked widespread concern among parents and the general public, captured an incident that took place on January 17, 2024. However, the victims only reported it after the video gained traction on social media.
According to an official statement from the school, four students have been identified as the perpetrators. They are: Shadad Aliu, known as Kester (Form 1), Haleem Jibril, a.k.a. Chopper (Form 3), Ahmed Dauda, a.k.a. Foreigner (Form 3), and Richard Ninsin, a.k.a. Poisonous (Form 3).
The victims of the attack are four Form 1 students: Samuel Ussher, Kingsford Quayson, Stephen Oteng, and Dominic Awuku Adjei.
Preliminary findings indicate that the machete used in the assault was brought from home by one of the perpetrators, ruling out the possibility that it was sourced from the school.
One of the students, who was captured on video wielding the weapon, has been handed over to the police for further questioning. Meanwhile, all individuals involved, who are day students, have been instructed to stay away from school as the investigation continues.
The parents of both the perpetrators and victims have been contacted, with some already assisting authorities by providing statements.
The school’s disciplinary committee is also handling the matter and is expected to update all stakeholders on the outcome of its findings.
In response to the incident, school management has reaffirmed its commitment to student safety, assuring parents and the public that strict measures will be implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
