The Zongo community in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region, has installed a new chief following the passing of the previous leader, who served for four decades.
Danjumah Gariba, 74, has been appointed as the new Zongo chief, succeeding the late Usef Osman Bako, who led the community for four years before his passing.
The installation ceremony took place on Sunday and was marked by traditional Zongo customs, with a large gathering of community members in attendance.
Danjumah Gariba, a businessman and father of three, has been installed as the new Zongo chief in Ho, where he is expected to uphold the legacy of fostering unity within the community. Over the years, the Zongo community has significantly expanded in the region, driven by trade and commerce.
Married with one wife, Gariba takes on this leadership role at a time when traditional authorities play a vital part in community development and cultural preservation. His leadership will be instrumental in helping migrant communities maintain their heritage while integrating into their new environment.
The Zongo community has firmly established itself in the Volta Region through decades of migration and settlement, contributing significantly to the area’s economic and social development.

During his vibrant installation ceremony, newly appointed Zongo Chief Danjumah Gariba vowed to continue the work of his predecessor by promoting unity and development within the community while strengthening relations with the indigenous people of the Volta Region.
In an interview with Adom News correspondent Odehyeba Owusu Job, Alhaji Awudu Kadri, the Upper East Bissa Chief, who attended the event, urged all Zongo residents in the Volta Region to rally behind their new leader to ensure progress and development in the area.
