Akufo-Addo’s gov’t treated Ghanaians badly—Adwoa Safo Slams Akufo-Addo Government

Adwoa Safo Slams Akufo-Addo Government: “We Were Wicked to Ghanaians”

Former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Sara Adwoa Safo, has delivered a scathing assessment of the Akufo-Addo administration, accusing the government of mistreating Ghanaians and ignoring concerns raised by members of its own party.

“We Were Wicked to the People of Ghana” – Adwoa Safo

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker admitted that the government’s failure to heed advice from its own ranks contributed to the party’s crushing defeat in the 2024 general elections.

“We know the bad treatment we gave to Ghanaians as a party. People raised concerns, but they were ignored or silenced. MPs who spoke up were victimized—their constituencies were targeted, and some were even removed from their positions,” she revealed.

NPP’s Internal Failures Cost Them the Election

According to Adwoa Safo, had the party listened to internal criticisms instead of retaliating against those who spoke out, the NPP could have remained in power beyond 2024.

“If they had listened to us instead of targeting and removing those who spoke the truth, the NPP would still be in power today,” she emphasized.

Bawumia Was a Victim, Not to Blame for NPP’s Defeat

Dismissing attempts to place the blame on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former minister argued that the Vice President was merely a victim of circumstances beyond his control.

“No one can blame Dr. Bawumia for the NPP’s defeat in 2024. He was simply caught in the fallout of poor governance,” she stated.

A Shocking Admission from an NPP Stalwart

Adwoa Safo’s bold remarks mark a rare moment of public acknowledgment from within the NPP regarding the failures of the Akufo-Addo government. With growing internal divisions and public dissatisfaction, her revelations add another layer of scrutiny to the party’s leadership and decisions leading up to the 2024 elections.

As Ghanaians reflect on her words, one thing is clear—even key figures within the NPP now admit that the government betrayed the trust of the people, a decision that ultimately cost them power.
