Transport Fares to Increase by 20% from March 17, Says Alliance of Drivers Ghana
The Alliance of Drivers Ghana has announced a 20% increase in transport fares, set to take effect on Monday, March 17, 2025. The decision follows rising operational costs, including fuel prices, engine oil, and vehicle spare parts, which have significantly impacted drivers’ earnings.
Why the Fare Hike?
Addressing the public, the National Public Relations Officer, Kwaku Boateng, explained that the lack of government intervention in tariff reductions has left drivers with no choice but to adjust fares.
“The 2025 budget was presented, and yet, we heard nothing about reducing tariffs. Meanwhile, the Finance Minister spoke for hours without addressing our concerns,” he said.
Boateng further appealed to passengers, urging them to understand the necessity of the price adjustment to ensure transport services remain operational.
“We are pleading with our passengers to bear with us because fuel costs, engine oil, and spare parts have all increased. To sustain our services, we have no choice but to raise fares by 20%,” he added.

With the new fares taking effect, passengers should expect adjustments across all public transport services, including trotros, taxis, and ride-hailing services. Industry experts predict this increase may further strain household budgets, particularly amid existing economic hardships.
