In a bid to resolve the protracted unrest in the Nkwanta South municipality of the Oti Region, DCOP Abdul Razak Osman, the National Security Coordinator, has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the conflict that has disrupted peace in the area for years.
Leading a high-level government delegation, DCOP Osman visited Nkwanta to assess the situation and lay the groundwork for restoring calm and stability. The conflict, which has deeply strained relations among residents, has become a serious security concern, prompting immediate action from the government.
As part of the response, DCOP Osman has instructed the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to conduct an in-depth probe into the root causes of the unrest. He emphasized the need to uncover the underlying issues fueling the discord and called for close collaboration between the two agencies in gathering intelligence and evidence.
Recognizing the critical role of traditional authorities in resolving disputes, DCOP Osman has also engaged with chiefs and community leaders, urging them to actively participate in dialogue and reconciliation efforts. He encouraged these leaders to take the lead in fostering unity among the affected parties and proposed that they sign a peace commitment as a demonstration of their dedication to long-term stability.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Bismark Kwasi Onwona, lauded the joint efforts of military and police personnel deployed to maintain order in the area. He assured the operatives of government support and urged them to work diligently to ensure that those responsible for violence are held accountable.
The combined efforts of security agencies, traditional authorities, and government officials reflect a determined approach to ending the conflict and securing lasting peace in Nkwanta South.
