The Kwahu Traditional Council has dismissed reports suggesting the existence of a dual paramountcy within the Kwahu Kingdom in the Eastern Region, reaffirming that there is only one legitimate Kwahumanhene—Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III.
In a press release, the Council stated that Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III was lawfully enstooled following the destoolment of his predecessor for misconduct.
“Claims of dual paramountcy are entirely false and baseless. Kwahu remains committed to peace, unity, and progress. We strongly oppose any attempt to create division or incite conflict within the kingdom,” the statement emphasized.
The Council urged all Kwahu citizens, both at home and abroad, to support Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III in his efforts to foster development and prosperity within the kingdom.
“May Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III reign long, and may Kwahu continue to thrive in integrity and harmony,” the statement concluded. The release was signed by the Akyeamehene of Kwahu Traditional Area, Nana Asiedu Kwabeng IV.
Destoolment of Former Kwahumanhene
Providing background on the matter, Nana Asiedu Kwabeng IV recounted that Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II was destooled on October 19, 2024, after a petition was filed against him at the Presidency by businessman Collins Darkwah Aboagye.
The petition, submitted on September 12, 2024, accused Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II of fraud and corruption, demanding the repayment of a GHS2,406,000 loan plus accrued interest.
According to Mr. Aboagye, he had provided the loan in recognition of the former Omanhene’s influence in helping him secure a GHS12 million loan from the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), where he served as Board Chair.
Following the petition, the Office of the President issued a directive on October 4, 2024, requiring Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II to respond within seven days. This was followed by a Bank of Ghana directive on October 10, 2024, ordering him to resign immediately from his position as Board Chairman of ADB.
The statement cited that his actions had severely tarnished the reputation of the bank, leading to his removal.
Traditional Authorities Took Action
Nana Asiedu Kwabeng IV stated that the Kwahu youth and citizens were outraged by the scandal and demanded the former Omanhene’s destoolment for bringing disgrace to the Kwahu Kingdom.
“He has soiled our cloth with red oil that he has eaten!” he remarked, emphasizing that such misconduct was unacceptable within Kwahu’s respected business community.
Responding to the public outcry, the Kwahu Kingmakers performed the necessary traditional rites on October 19, 2024, to officially destool Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II as Omanhene.
The decision was unanimously affirmed by the Kwahu Traditional Council during a meeting on November 13, 2024, where all chiefs signed a resolution to support the destoolment. The ruling was later publicized across major newspapers and online media platforms.
Enstoolment of Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III
Following the destoolment, the traditional authorities, elders, and kingmakers deliberated carefully and selected a worthy successor to ascend the throne.
On January 25, 2025, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III was peacefully enstooled as the new Omanhene of Kwahu.
During the ceremony, the Adontenghene, who had served as the acting Omanhene, officially handed over the “Akofena” (Sword of Authority) to Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, symbolizing his legitimate ascension as the Paramount Chief of Kwahu.
The Council emphasized that the installation process was peaceful and undisputed, reaffirming that Kwahu has only one Omanhene.
