The body of a man believed to be in his 60s has been recovered along the railway line at Alajo after torrential rains triggered severe flooding across parts of Accra on Monday, June 29.
The recovery was confirmed by the Ghana National Fire Service’s Public Relations Officer, Alex King Nartey, as emergency responders continued rescue and recovery operations in several flood-hit communities across the capital.
Beyond the reported fatality, the heavy rains left a trail of destruction, damaging vehicles, flooding homes and businesses, and rendering several major roads impassable as floodwaters swept through affected areas.
Emergency response teams have since been deployed to assist stranded residents, carry out rescue operations, and assess the extent of the damage.
The incident comes as persistent heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across parts of Accra, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay away from flood-prone areas and avoid attempting to cross fast-flowing floodwaters.
The Ghana National Fire Service has also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and promptly report emergencies as rescue teams continue to monitor the situation.
