World Vision Ghana has raised serious concerns over recent cases of bullying reported at Accra Academy and Zuarungu Senior High School (SHS), urging swift action to address the issue.
In a statement, the organization condemned the incidents as unacceptable, highlighting the devastating impact bullying can have on victims’ mental health, well-being, and academic progress.
Gregory L. Dery, Child Protection and Advocacy Manager at World Vision Ghana, signed the statement, stressing the need for immediate intervention. The organization called on school authorities to conduct thorough investigations and hold those responsible accountable.
“Education authorities must provide schools with adequate resources and guidance to prevent and effectively address bullying. The government should strengthen existing laws and ensure their strict enforcement to protect students. Additionally, fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity in schools requires collaboration among parents, teachers, and students,” the statement emphasized.
To curb bullying, World Vision Ghana urged schools to implement clear policies and reporting mechanisms. They also recommended training teachers and school staff on bullying prevention and intervention strategies.
“Students need to be educated on the harmful effects of bullying and encouraged to report such incidents. Strengthening cooperation between parents and schools is vital in ensuring students’ safety and well-being,” the statement added.
Mr. Dery expressed solidarity with the affected students and their families, emphasizing that every child deserves a safe learning environment, free from fear and harassment.
Reaffirming its commitment to child protection, World Vision Ghana pledged to continue advocating for policies and interventions that make schools secure spaces for learning and growth.
