AssaultThe Toase District Court has struck out the assault case involving a teacher and a student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.

The case attracted national attention after a video circulated widely on social media showing a teacher, identified as Eric Afful, allegedly assaulting a female student on the school’s campus. The incident sparked public outrage and led to the teacher’s arrest as investigations commenced.

However, when the matter came before the court, both parties were advised to resolve their differences through reconciliation rather than continue with legal proceedings. The court encouraged the families involved to settle the issue amicably outside the courtroom, leading to the case being struck out.

Speaking after the hearing, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Professor Elvis Binney, called on the public to exercise restraint in their comments regarding the case. He urged people to avoid making unfair remarks, threats, or judgments against Mr. Afful while efforts are ongoing to achieve a peaceful resolution.

Professor Binney emphasized the importance of allowing due process and reconciliation to take its course, stressing that the matter should be handled in a manner that promotes harmony among all parties involved.

The incident had generated intense debate across the country, with many Ghanaians expressing concerns about discipline, student welfare, and the conduct expected of teachers in educational institutions. With the court’s decision, attention is now focused on the reconciliation process aimed at bringing closure to the matter.

Although the legal case has been discontinued, many observers continue to follow developments closely as both families work toward an amicable settlement.
