The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed as false a widely circulated notice claiming that the 2026 school selection exercise for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates had begun on June 15, 2026.
In a statement issued on June 14, GES clarified that it has not announced the commencement of the school selection process and urged the public to disregard the information being shared on social media and other unofficial platforms.
According to the Service, the fake notice falsely claimed that BECE candidates were required to select and submit five preferred schools ahead of the placement process. It also alleged that there was no deadline for submissions and directed parents and candidates to an unofficial WhatsApp support line.

GES stressed that the publication did not originate from the Service and should be treated as misleading and unreliable. It emphasized that all official updates regarding school selection and placement would be communicated only through its recognised and authorised channels.
The Service further warned parents, guardians, teachers, and candidates not to provide personal information or engage with individuals behind the fake announcement, cautioning that such misinformation could expose the public to fraud and exploitation.
GES advised stakeholders to always verify education-related announcements before taking action and to rely strictly on official government and education sector communication platforms.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the Service assured the public that any genuine updates regarding the 2026 BECE school selection exercise will be officially announced at the appropriate time.
