James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister-designate, has assured residents of the region of their safety and well-being under his leadership, should he be confirmed as the regional minister.
During his parliamentary vetting, Mr. Gunu emphasized his commitment to strengthening security and protecting residents, especially vulnerable groups, from violence and harmful activities. He pledged to make security a top priority as he assumes the role of Chairman of the Regional Security Council.
“Our region’s development hinges on peace and security,” Mr. Gunu stated. “I will work with all stakeholders, including traditional leaders, to implement proactive measures such as early warning systems to swiftly address potential threats. Without peace, there can be no progress.”
Responding to Recent Unrest in Ho
Addressing recent disturbances in Ho, where disgruntled supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) torched the party’s constituency office over the perceived lack of ministerial appointments for Ho Central, Mr. Gunu revealed that investigations were underway to determine the root cause of the incident.
While he could not confirm whether the unrest was politically motivated, Mr. Gunu reassured the public that measures would be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
A Vision for Development
Beyond his focus on security, the minister-designate expressed his determination to leverage the region’s vast potential to drive development. He outlined plans to initiate targeted projects and foster partnerships aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people.
“Collaboration and strategic planning will be key in addressing the needs of the region,” Mr. Gunu affirmed, highlighting his vision of building a safer and more prosperous Volta Region.
