Premier League champions Medeama SC will host their 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League preliminary round matches at the Tarkwa and Aboso (TnA) Stadium after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) granted the facility Category 2 Stadium Approval.
The approval marks a historic moment as continental club football will be staged in Tarkwa for the first time, allowing the Mauve and Yellow to play their Champions League matches in front of their home supporters.
CAF’s decision followed a detailed inspection of the stadium, with officials confirming that the facility meets the required standards to host CAF Youth and Women’s National Team qualifiers as well as preliminary round fixtures in CAF interclub competitions.
The certification provides a major boost for Medeama, who previously would have had to relocate their continental matches to another approved venue. The club can now begin their Champions League campaign on home soil, subject to CAF’s final confirmation of each fixture.
The achievement also represents a major milestone for the Western Region, bringing top-level African club football to the mining town of Tarkwa for the first time.
The approval was made possible through the combined efforts of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Medeama SC, stadium management, and other stakeholders who worked to upgrade the facility to meet CAF’s latest requirements.
Beyond Medeama’s Champions League campaign, the certification highlights Ghana’s continued improvement in football infrastructure and its growing ability to host major CAF competitions.
With home advantage secured, Medeama will now rely on the support of their fans as they begin their quest to reach the group stages of Africa’s premier club competition.
