Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak,

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has cautioned Regional Ministers against the arbitrary and partisan use of state security agencies, stressing that such actions could erode public trust and threaten national stability.

Speaking at a training programme on the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2026 (Act 1168) in Accra, the Minister urged public officials to exercise their powers responsibly and within the limits of the law.

According to him, government officials often face pressure from individuals seeking to use state institutions to pursue political interests or settle personal disputes. However, he maintained that security agencies must remain professional, impartial, and committed to their constitutional responsibilities.

Muntaka warned that using security institutions for partisan purposes could weaken Ghana’s democratic foundations and damage confidence in state institutions.

“Unlawful or partisan use of the security institutions has no place within this room,” he stated, calling on Regional Ministers to demonstrate leadership rooted in fairness, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.

The Interior Minister also encouraged stronger collaboration between Regional Ministers and security agencies to improve intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and public safety across the country.

He further disclosed that government is working to modernise Ghana’s security architecture through enhanced recruitment, improved training, and increased logistical support for security agencies. Efforts are also underway to strengthen border security and deepen cooperation with neighbouring countries in tackling transnational crime and emerging security threats.

The remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the role of state institutions in safeguarding democracy and ensuring that security agencies operate independently and professionally.
