A teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region has been arrested following the circulation of a viral video that allegedly shows him physically assaulting a female student on the school campus.
The development was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. According to him, the teacher seen in the video has been taken into police custody while investigations into the incident continue.
The shocking video, which has generated widespread public outrage on social media, appears to show the teacher repeatedly confronting and striking the student during an altercation. Witnesses in the video can be heard pleading with the teacher to stop, reminding him that the victim was a female student. However, the teacher reportedly continued the confrontation.
In a later update, Daniel Fenyi revealed that the student involved in the incident had also been arrested. According to the GES official, both the teacher and the student are currently undergoing medical examinations while authorities work to establish the full facts surrounding the incident.
The exact cause of the confrontation has not yet been officially disclosed, although some reports suggest the dispute may have been linked to an issue involving hostel fees. Investigators are expected to determine the circumstances that led to the clash.
The Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has launched a formal investigation and is expected to submit a detailed report to the headquarters of the Ghana Education Service. The outcome of the investigation will determine any disciplinary measures or legal action that may follow.
