Leading opposition figure Hopeson Adorye has strongly defended the Health Minister’s decision to suspend the Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), insisting that the action falls within the minister’s administrative powers.
Speaking on a current affairs programme, Adorye argued that public officials entrusted with national institutions must be held accountable whenever concerns arise regarding their performance.
He maintained that the Health Minister acted in the interest of improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that standards within the country’s premier medical facilities are maintained.
According to him, attempts to politicize the suspension risk diverting attention from the real issues affecting healthcare management and service delivery.
Adorye stressed that leadership positions in public institutions come with responsibility and that no official should be exempt from scrutiny.
He further noted that disciplinary measures, when necessary, are essential tools for promoting efficiency and restoring public confidence in state institutions.
The comments come amid growing public debate over the circumstances surrounding the KATH CEO’s suspension and the legal authority behind the decision.
Supporters of the minister’s action argue that decisive leadership is necessary to address operational challenges confronting the health sector.
Critics, however, have questioned the process and called for greater transparency regarding the reasons for the suspension.
As discussions continue, the controversy is expected to remain a major topic in Ghana’s political and healthcare landscape, with stakeholders closely watching the next steps from government authorities.
