Oti Region: Ghana’s Emerging Frontier for Investment and Development
Established in December 2018, the Oti Region is one of Ghana’s newest administrative territories, carved out of the former Volta Region to enhance governance and accelerate development. Dambai serves as the regional capital, steering the region toward growth and prosperity.
Administrative Divisions
The Oti Region is divided into nine districts, each with its own administrative capital:
1. Biakoye District – Capital: Nkonya Ahenkro
2. Guan District – Capital: Likpe-Mate
3. Jasikan Municipal – Capital: Jasikan
4. Kadjebi District – Capital: Kadjebi
5. Krachi East Municipal – Capital: Dambai
6. Krachi Nchumuru District – Capital: Chinderi
7. Krachi West Municipal – Capital: Kete Krachi
8. Nkwanta North District – Capital: Kpassa
9. Nkwanta South Municipal – Capital: Nkwanta
Population and Demographics
According to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, the Oti Region has a population of approximately 747,248, accounting for about 2.42% of Ghana’s total population. The region’s demographic distribution includes a mix of various ethnic groups, contributing to its rich cultural tapestry. 
Investment Opportunities
The Oti Region boasts a wealth of natural resources and strategic advantages that make it attractive to investors:
• Agriculture: With its fertile lands, the region is ideal for cultivating crops such as yam, cassava, maize, and rice. Investment in agro-processing facilities can add value to these products and boost the local economy.
• Mineral Resources: Recent geological surveys have identified significant iron ore deposits in areas like Akokrowa. Exploiting these minerals can lead to industrial development and job creation.
• Tourism: Natural attractions such as the Kyabobo National Park, Lake Volta, and the Hanging Village of Shiare offer potential for eco-tourism ventures. Developing infrastructure around these sites can enhance their appeal to both domestic and international tourists.

• Senior High Schools (SHS): The region has several SHSs, including Bueman Senior High School in Jasikan, Nkwanta Senior High School, and Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School.
• Tertiary Institutions: Currently, the region has limited tertiary institutions. However, plans are underway to establish more to cater to the growing educational needs of the populace.
Occupations of the People
The inhabitants of the Oti Region are predominantly engaged in:
• Agriculture: Serving as the backbone of the local economy, many residents are involved in farming and fishing activities.
• Trading: Local markets are vibrant, with traders dealing in agricultural produce, crafts, and other goods.
• Artisanal Work: Crafts such as weaving, pottery, and blacksmithing are common, reflecting the rich cultural traditions of the area.
Developmental Challenges
Despite its potential, the Oti Region faces several challenges:
