Barcelona kept the La Liga title race wide open with a determined 4-1 victory over Sevilla, despite being reduced to ten men.
Hansi Flick’s side closed the gap on Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, now sitting just two points behind Carlo Ancelotti’s team in third place.
The match was an intense battle from the outset, with Robert Lewandowski giving Barcelona the lead before Sevilla’s Vargas responded almost immediately to ensure the sides went into halftime level.
However, Barcelona wasted no time reclaiming control after the break, as substitute Fermin Lopez headed home from Pedri’s pinpoint cross just moments after coming on.
Lopez’s night took a turn when he was shown a red card for a tackle on Djibril Sow, leaving Barcelona a man down. But the numerical disadvantage didn’t hinder them, as Raphinha and Eric Garcia struck late to seal a convincing win.
This vital result extends Barcelona’s unbeaten run to 11 matches in all competitions, with nine wins in that stretch. Flick’s men remain firmly in the hunt for the title.
