Habib Iddrisu, the First Minority Whip in Parliament, has highlighted the Minority Caucus’s commitment to maintaining democratic values throughout the vetting process of ministerial nominees.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, February 1, Iddrisu acknowledged the tensions and disagreements that surfaced during the Appointments Committee’s meeting on January 30. Despite these challenges, he emphasized that the Minority has consistently demonstrated goodwill and a cooperative spirit, prioritizing a fair and transparent process.
“We have shown great patience and good faith throughout this process. Our approach has been constructive, and we’ve engaged with the nominees while preserving the integrity of Parliament,” Iddrisu said.
He also criticized the Majority for failing to build consensus, a shortcoming he believes contributed to the discord that occurred during the vetting. According to him, a more collaborative approach would have helped prevent the clash.
Iddrisu reiterated that the Minority remains dedicated to its oversight responsibilities and will continue to ensure that only qualified and deserving individuals are approved for ministerial roles. He urged the Majority to adopt a more inclusive and transparent strategy, which, in his view, would help avoid future conflicts and protect the integrity of the parliamentary vetting process.
