A Catholic priest in Nigeria, Reverend Father Jude Muokwe, has come under heavy criticism following allegations that he physically assaulted a 50-year-old teacher, Mrs. Ikeorah Maureen, inside her classroom.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the deduction of lesson fees. According to witnesses, Father Muokwe became enraged when Mrs. Ikeorah questioned inconsistencies in the agreed fee distribution. The disagreement allegedly escalated, leading to the priest flogging and slapping the teacher in front of others.
A distressing video circulating online shows Mrs. Ikeorah in tears, displaying visible bruises as she narrates her ordeal.
“He came in and started flogging and slapping me. He accused me of calling a meeting with the teachers, but I never did. Look at my face, my back, my legs,” she said in the video.
The incident has sparked outrage both in Ifitedunu and across social media, with many demanding the priest’s immediate suspension and a thorough investigation by both the church and law enforcement authorities.
Mrs. Ikeorah, a widow and grandmother, has been a dedicated Primary 6 teacher at the school for years. However, despite the growing public backlash, the school management and the Awka Diocese have yet to issue an official response.
Community members are calling for justice, emphasizing the need for accountability and respect within educational institutions.
