Government Declares War on Galamsey as Lands Minister Vows Relentless Action
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, across Ghana.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Buah emphasized that the government is treating the fight against illegal mining as an urgent national emergency that demands round-the-clock action.
A Nationwide Emergency Response
“We are treating this as an emergency. Our team is working 24/7, and we will not relent. This issue must be tackled with the urgency it demands,” the Minister declared.
Reiterating the government’s firm stance against galamsey, he assured the public that authorities are fully committed to winning the battle.
“As Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, I want to assure every Ghanaian that we are confronting this crisis with the highest level of seriousness, urgency, and emergency measures. We will not rest until we succeed,” he stressed.
Galamsey’s Devastating Impact on Ghana
The illegal mining menace has caused widespread environmental degradation, leading to water pollution, deforestation, and destruction of farmlands. Despite previous clampdowns, galamsey remains a significant threat to Ghana’s natural resources and public health.
Government’s Intensified Efforts to End Galamsey
In recent years, the government has introduced stricter enforcement measures, deployed anti-galamsey task forces, and strengthened collaborations with security agencies to dismantle illegal mining operations.
With the latest renewed commitment, the Ministry is signaling a no-compromise approach to restoring Ghana’s lands and water bodies.
